Eleven Towns Tour: the finest and most booked cycling package in the Netherlands!

It’s not a race, it’s a pleasure! Speed plays a major role in many Elfsteden tours. For the stressed participants it is a question of getting their heads down and riding hard. Such events allow little or no time to visit the places of interest along the route, or take a siesta on the sea dike. The Friesland Holland tourist office in Wolvega has developed a special cycling tour for all those who want to stop and enjoy the sophisticated Frisian cuisine, visit the region’s famous and not-so-famous cultural treasures and admire the variety in landscape. The point of departure for the tour was quality and originality from start to finish.

Unique in a number of ways
During the cycling tour, which covers a distance of approximately 250 km, you will have plenty of time each day to enjoy the most attractive spots in the Frisian landscape and to visit a number of must-see places of cultural-historical interest. Another unique aspect of the tour is that you stay overnight in a range of accommodation types such as newly renovated and restored hotels or guesthoueses where you can still feel the atmosphere of years ago, authentic city town and country guesthouses with quality rooms. Wherever you are, you can expect to be served an original and delicious breakfast. You will find yourself pleasantly surprised each and every day!

Daily programm

Day 1

On your first day you will be expected in the afternoon at the start hotel/guesthouse in Gaasterland or Workum.
Relaxed and well-informed you will start the first cycling day tomorrow morning.

Day 2

Today you will bike from your start hotel/guesthouse to the old academic city Franeker via Bolward and the cozy Waddensea city Harlingen.
In Franeker you will be staying in the authentic farmhouse Oppe Klincke or at a hotel on basis of bed and breakfast.

Day 3

You will continue your journey from Franeker along the Waddensea shore towards Dokkum which used to be a harbor, but nowadays is the “capital” of the Lauwersland. Next, you will pass the Dokkum Ee, Bartlehiem, the finish line of the original Eleven Towns tour (on skates) and the Bonkevaart in order to get to Leeuwarden where you will be accommodated in a city hotel. Try to visit the cozy centre of the Friesian capital, with plenty of monuments and museums to look for.

Day 4

This day you will go in southern direction to the Watergate city Sneek and IJst. Here you will be accommodated at hotel De Oorsprong, a the former stud-farm in St. Nicolaasga which is located in the wooded area of Gaasterland, or in a hotel/guesthouse in its surrounding.

Day 5

On the last day you can enjoy a route with a lot of variation. First, you’ll bike to the fortress city Sloten, the smallest city of the Eleven Towns and also the smallest city of Holland. After visiting Sloten you will continue the route through the forests of Gaasterland and back to the hotel/guesthouse where you have started on the first day. End of the package. In case you are not willing to go home yet, you are able to book an extra night, advisable is to arrange this in advantage.

Mostly Eleven City hotels are located in historic premises and town or country guesthouses. On each occasion you will spend the night in a room with good quality en-suite sanitary facilities.

Depending on the chosen cycle arrangement, a relevant selection of above mentioned documents will be included in your information package.

Extra night

In case you do not want to drive back home on the last day of your package, you could choose to book an extra night in the starting hotel.
It is strongly recommended to reserve this extra night in advance, during your reservation of the package.

Service

Luggage Service

High season
During the months May, June, July, August and September you may start a Friesland Holland package with luggage transport on any day.

Low season
In the low season months March and April you have to start on a Sunday or a Monday.
If you would like to start on another day than a Monday or Sunday during low season, Friesland Holland will charge €25,- extra per person per package.

Luggage service is only provided in the period of the 1st of April until the 1st of October. After the 1st of October, Friesland Holland can transfer suitcases for groups larger than 10 persons on request. Your suitcases will be picked up every day at 9 am at the reception of the hotel and will be dropped off between 9 am and 6 pm at the next lodging address. The information package which you have received at home has luggage labels inside which you need to attach to your suitcases in order to make use of our luggage service.

Mobility Guarantee

The mobility guarantee has been included in the price of every Friesland Holland cycling package. With this unique service you will be insured in Friesland, with the exception of the islands, of a replacement vehicle. This is if the bike breaks down or if you had an accident with your own bicycle or rented bike and this cannot be restored at that place or at a bicycle repair specialist nearby within 1 hour. You will receive an excellent replacement bicycle with 7 gears and cyclebags or you will be taken by the Friesland Holland Assistance car to your ending destination of that day, no costs involved. The Friesland Holland Assistance car is able to take your bike to a bicycle repair shop in the neighbourhood near the lodging address if you wish. The costs of repairing the bike are for your own expense. Friesland Holland Assistance helps you to continue your trip in Friesland. The service is provided from the 1st of April until the 1st of October, 7 days a week, from 10 am until 6 pm. A tire repair set is provided when one rents a bike.

Tip: put on anti-puncture tires. Our rental bikes are equipped with such tires as well. This brings the chance of getting a flat tire to the minimum.

Rent a touring bike with lots of extras!

The tourist office Friesland Holland Bicycle Company 's Bike Corner in Gaasterland Oudemirdum selected for the rental of bicycles for Friesland Holland cycling packages. This company offers above average service and very friendly staff.
At the request of Friesland Holland rents' t Bike Corner the latest and the best suited for the purpose Batavus bikes (made in Heerenveen) and accessories and delivers it to the accommodation address where the cycle begins. The bikes are not standard rental bicycles, motorbikes but with many extras. They cost therefore complete about 860, - Euro each.

Touring bikes:
For adults, Rent-a-TopBike special Batavus Holiday's included in the program. This smooth-running and very comfortable two-wheelers have a sporty design aluminum frame, 7 gears, suspension for and under the saddle, roller brakes (super brakes by Shimano), anti-lekbanden and two practical hard panniers. Saddle and handlebars are easy to adjust quickly, without key! Each bike is equipped with a key-and puncture, a frame lock and a cable for attachment to a lamppost, fence or other real estate (both required to use to prevent theft!).
Price: EUR 15.00 per day

Touring bikes with an electric auxiliary motor:
You can increase your own strength twice a bicycle with an auxiliary electric motor. Refer to the electric motor, which is powered by an easy to charge battery, like a little boost. It is not a complete drive source as a gasoline engine, you must have stairs. The radius of a bicycle with an auxiliary electric motor is between 100 and 200 km. Range is affected by how often you bet the motor, the weather, the road surface, the temperature and the use of the gears. You must recharge after each stage as charging. The charger is in the pannier.
Price: EUR 25.00 per day.

ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION, DELIVERY AND RETURN
Friesland Holland regulates the rental and delivery and return the bike for you. This service is only a small fee: 15,00 Euro per bike. The bikes and extras on the first day, on the first day of cycling for 10:00 at the accommodation address and delivered at the end of the rental period, the last day of cycling, again at 18.00 retrieved.

Price Delivery and return: EUR 15,00 per bicycle rental, regardless of the duration of the rental period
